October 1, 2014 - kicker/punter Dustin Wilke
"After getting looks from NCAA Division I football programs and even National Football League scouts, Dustin Wilke has found a place at Bolstorff Field in Forest City. Wilke, who is Waldorf's kicker, has not missed a field goal attempt or an extra-point kick this year. He is the Warrior's leading scorer with 38 points. 'I like it here,' he said. 'It's fun and I really like the home games. We have a nice field -- I love kicking on the turf.' Wilke is from Holzgerlingen, Germany. Like most European athletes, he grew up playing soccer, but converted to American football in the last half of his senior year in high school. 'I never dreamed of being just a kicker,' he said, 'I played receiver and kicked for my team. But I focused on receiving.' He played semi-pro football in Germany shortly after finishing high school, but said he wondered if he had a chance in the NFL. Wilke said his German teammates encouraged him to try kicking as a specialty. "They said I was better than the kickers they had on their college teams'.... On the field Wilke has made six of six field goals (the longest 34 yards), all 24 extra-point attempts and handles the team's punting duties." - Mason City Globe Gazette
