Wayland Baptist Pioneers Kicker, Punter & Snapper News


September 14, 2015 - kicker Daniel Martinez earns weekly CSFL & NAIA honors 
"Martinez, who earlier in the day was named Central States Football League Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season, successfully kicked all three of his field goal attempts and all five PAT tries as the Pioneers defeated Howard Payne, 44-34. A 5-foot-9, 160-pound sophomore from Dallas Bryan Adams High School, Martinez connected from  22, 55 and 42 yards in Brownwood after hitting from 56, 53, 43 and 42 yards in the team's season-opener. Martinez is 9-for-9 on the season in PATs. The school record for longest field goal coming into the season was 51 yards, which Martinez already has surpassed three times in two games. Martinez is No. 1 or tied for No. 1 in the NAIA in field goal percentage and PAT percentage (1.000), field goals per game (3.5), and scoring (kicking) per game (15). He's second in total field goals (7)." - VSN

"The Wayland Baptist football program has secured its first-ever National Player of the Week. Freshman kicker Daniel Martinez was named the NAIA's Special Teams Player of the Week for his role in the Pioneers' 26-14 win over Bacone in Central States Football League action on Saturday in Muskogee, Okla. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound Martinez, a graduate of Dallas Bryan Adams High School, kicked a Wayland-record four field goals against Bacone from 28, 24, 48 and 45 yards. The last three field goals accounted for the Pioneers' nine fourth-quarter points as Wayland secured its first CSFL victory of the season. Martinez also was 2-for-2 kicking PATs to round out his perfect kicking day. He had seven kickoffs, averaging 58.3 yards per kick, with one touchback. Martinez was chosen as national special teams player of the week out of a pool of conference and independent award winners. He previously was named Central States Football Special Teams Player of the Week." - Pioneers
