High School Long Kicks - Florida

Our series exploring the longest field goals at the high school level in each state continues with Florida.

The first three unofficial entries can be found on Lucky Show's extensive listing:
  • 68 Joshua Poulsen, Wesley Chapel High School against Dade City, 2000
  • 67 (or 65 or 55?) Lonny Calicchio, Plantation HS, 1988-1990
"Calicchio, who has resided in Plantation since he was 14, played football at South Plantation High School. In his junior season, he helped the Paladins reach the sectional playoffs against Carol City. He once booted a 55-yard field goal in a game, and he connected on a 65-yarder in a kicking competition. •  65 Steve Purviance, Gulf High at Newport Richey, 2004
The Official List:
  • 65 Graham Gano, Tate HS in 23-42 loss to Fort Walton Beach HS, 9/9/2004
"Graham Gano, a senior kicker from Tate High in Cantonment, connected on a 65-yard field goal Thursday, believed to be the longest high school kick in Florida history. 'I knew he could kick it. He does it in practice all the time,' said Tate coach Charlie Armstrong, who called for the kick on a fourth-and-17 from the Fort Walton Beach 48-yard line in the second quarter. The previous career-long for Gano, whose strong leg also put a kickoff through the uprights Thursday in a 42-23 loss, was a 57-yard game-winner with 1:30 left in a game last year. The previous state record was thought to be a 62-yard kick by Bartow's Grant Harley in 1999. Such long kicks are rarely attempted, but are less risky in high school because a missed kick that reaches the end zone results in the opposing team starting at the 20-yard line. 'If he misses, it's just as good as a punt,' said Armstrong, whose school is north of Pensacola, just east of the Alabama state line. Gano, an 6-foot-1, 180-pound all-state soccer player, has not been recruited heavily, with Central Florida as his only scholarship offer, Armstrong said. Louisville and Florida State have also talked with him, and Thursday's kick is likely to draw interest from other schools." - St. Petersburg Times
  • 64 Graham Gano, Tate HS (Cantonment) in 47-0 win over New Orleans Cohen HS (LA), 10/29/2004
  • 62 Erik Denton, Merritt Island High v. Rockledge, 1987
  • 62 Grant Harley, Barstow HS in 24-26 loss at Lake Region, 11/12/1999, Denison Stadium
  • 61 Mark Wisniewski, Bishop Kenny HS in 25-33 loss to Nease HS, 1997
  • 61 Ezekiel Hernandez, Pahokee High in 33-12 win over Village Academy, 10/9/2015
“It was awesome. I do this every practice. Now I’m going to see if I can hit a field goal from 70 yards out.” - PrepBuilders
  • 60 Sebastian Janikowski, Sea Breeze HS (Daytona Beach) v Palatkah HS, 1996, missed one from 71 yards
  • 60 Paul Johnson, Chiles HS (Tallahassee), 2002
  • 60 J.T. Arnold, Crestview High in 31-28 win over Washington HS Wildcats, 11/14/2008, free kick w/tee off fair catch on punt, with 2.4 seconds to go for win
