Essendon FC Bombers Kicking News

September 6, 2015 - Heath Hocking kicks game winner over Collingwood
"After a trying season, Essendon fans finally have reason to smile with the Bombers stealing a thrilling three-point victory from Collingwood at the MCG on Sunday afternoon. As the sun set on the 2015 home and away season, a healthy crowd of 40,270 watched as Heath Hocking sealed the Bombers' first win since round 15 - 14.11 (95) to 14.8 (92). Hocking kicked a goal with less than a minute-and-a-half on the clock to give the Dons the match-winning lead, before the ball was pushed to the Pies' attacking end as the siren approached." - AFL

July 11, 2015 - Joe Daniher kicks five goals in win over Melbourne
"Five goals straight from Joe Daniher has been the catalyst for Essendon's first win since round eight, with a pressure-lifting nine-point victory over Melbourne. After being stung by 110 points by St Kilda last Sunday, the Bombers looked to be in crisis with the future of James Hird making headlines early in the week. But the players showed remarkable spirit on Saturday at the MCG to stave off a late Demons comeback that cut the margin to two points and shelve their five-game losing streak, 10.9 (69) to 7.18 (60). May 24, 2015 - Joe Daniher kicks six goals in win over Brisbane
"Young Essendon forward Joe Daniher has kicked a career-best six goals to spearhead a 58-point win over the Brisbane Lions on Sunday, with the Bombers galloping away at Etihad Stadium to boot their highest score of the season. Under an open roof, the Bombers played with an attacking flair that has been missing in 2015, kicking 12 goals in the second half to win 21.10 (136) to 12.6 (78) and end a two-game losing streak.... Daniher benefited most from the Bombers' new approach, taking five marks inside 50 and enjoying a breakout game after being under the spotlight for his wayward set shot kicking. The 21-year-old converted his first four shots in the first half before finishing with 6.2, kicking his sixth from a set shot tight on the boundary in the fourth quarter." - AFL

April 12, 2015 - Cale Hooker kicks match winner
A last-minute goal from unlikely hero Cale Hooker has helped Essendon to a famous two-point win over bitter rival Hawthorn at the MCG. The Bombers held a 35-point lead just before half-time but looked set to be overrun for the second successive week, with the Hawks dominating the second half to lead by 16 points midway through the final term. But just a week after coughing up a 41-point lead to the Sydney Swans, the Bombers refused to let it happen again and surged to a 12.6 (78) to 11.10 (76) victory.... But a goal to Travis Colyer with 1m 20sec remaining changed the game again, putting the Bombers within four points and bringing the red and black faithful to their feet. Then Hooker – who had drifted forward – gathered the ball and accurately snapped accurately with 57 seconds to play." - AFL

January 22, 2015 - Joe Daniher tweaks his kicking
"Joe Daniher has revealed he’s got ‘back to basics’ with his goal kicking technique under the tutelage of Essendon great Matthew Lloyd. Lloyd has returned to the Bombers in an official capacity for the first time since his retirement and will work with the players as a specialist goalkicking coach this year.  Despite being the Bombers leading goalkicker in his second AFL season, booting 28.20 in his 21 games, Daniher’s approach did not escape scrutiny. 'It was probably just bringing it back to basics and starting from the start again,' the 20-year-old told Radio 3AW. 'I feel like I had a pretty natural kick growing up and as I got into the AFL I probably didn’t have a set routine and it was about building that,' he said. 'We haven’t completely changed my kicking style, it’s just about tinkering with a few things to make it a little more consistent'." - AFL

January 15, 2015 - kicking coach Matthew Lloyd
"Matthew Lloyd's return to Essendon as a specialist goalkicking coach is already reaping benefits, with young forward Joe Daniher refining his action this pre-season. Lloyd, who booted 926 goals for the Bombers and sits seventh on the AFL's all-time goalkicking list, has been working two days a week with his former club's key forwards, including Daniher and Jake Carlisle. Star Bomber Brendon Goddard said the champion full-forward had already made a big impact since joining his 2000 premiership teammate James Hird on the coaching panel. 'They're working hard and I've seen some improvement with Joe in his goalkicking,' Goddard said on Thursday." - AFL
