Geelong FC Cats Kicking News

August 1, 2015 - Josh Walker kicks five goals in win over Brisbane
"Geelong didn't answer many questions about its bid for a ninth consecutive finals campaign, but the Cats warmed up for a stern test ahead with a 56-point win over the Brisbane Lions at Simonds Stadium on Saturday. If Richmond has just completed its 'big boy month', then that challenge now faces the Cats in August, who climbed at least temporarily into the top eight on the back of the 17.11 (113) to 8.9 (57) triumph.... But on this occasion it took a haul of four goals before half-time from Josh Walker to propel the Cats towards their ninth win. Supplied by a dominant midfield, Walker finished with career-high five majors in a high-marking display sure to excite Cats fans." - AFL

April 10, 2015 - Jimmy Bartel ruled out for Fremantle
"Jimmy Bartel has failed to prove his fitness for Geelong's crunch game against Fremantle at Simonds Stadium on Sunday and has been withdrawn from the Cats' squad. The Cats were hopeful Bartel would be fit to take his place against the Dockers just six days after being knocked unconscious in the dying seconds of the Geelong-Hawthorn clash on Easter Monday. But Geelong has made the call to take the Brownlow medallist out of selection calculations." - AFL

March 22, 2015 - Tom Hawkins kicks five in win over Carlton
"Forwards Tom Hawkins and Mitch Clark have helped fire the Cats to a comfortable 19-point NAB Challenge win over Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. The pairing of Hawkins and Clark is an exciting proposition for the Cats in season 2015 and their fans caught a glimpse of what life might be like with the tandem on song up forward. Hawkins looked dangerous every time he went near the football against the Blues, as the star forward finished the day with a game-high five goals. Clark also chimed in with three majors, with the Cats' Steve Johnson – in his first game of the pre-season – booting a late major to close out the 0.17.9 (111) to 2.10.14 (92) result." - AFL

March 12, 2015 - Mitch Clark kicks six in win over Adelaide
"Mitch Clark demonstrated what an asset he might become at Geelong with an outstanding performance against Adelaide in Thursday night's NAB Challenge clash at Simonds Stadium. He set the Cats alight with three goals in the opening quarter and then steadied the ship with two goals late in the third quarter as the Crows were closing.  He put the seal on the performance with his sixth goal late in the last quarter to help Geelong to the 1.12.6 (87) to 0.9.14 (68) victory. The key forward was traded from Melbourne to Geelong after retiring from football midway 2014 when diagnosed with clinical depression. After a solid pre-season and a promising opening performance against Gold Coast, he showed his ability taking six marks in the six-goal performance. He also pinch-hitted in the ruck at times as the Cats let him loose." - AFL

January 17, 2015 - Tom Hawkins to stick around and kick
"Although he will qualify for free agency at the end of this season, Geelong forward Tom Hawkins has indicated he won't test the market and will sign a new deal with the Cats. Hawkins and Adelaide star Patrick Dangerfield are the biggest names in the 2015 free agency pool.... Hawkins kicked 68 goals last year from 24 games, and is enthused by the recruitment of key forwards Mitch Clark and Rhys Stanley to the Cats. 'We're always looking to bring guys into our group who we think can make a difference on and off the field to give us every chance we can to win a premiership,' he said." - AFL
