NAIA Kickers & Punters - First Kicks

Our annual Q&A series with college specialists continues with NAIA kickers and punters. We asked seniors in the following question:
"What's your earliest memory of kicking a ball (any kind of ball)?"
Following are their responses.

Cody Thornton, Graceland
"My earliest memory of kicking a ball would have to be around the age of six. I was passing a soccer ball around with my older brother in our front yard. He went inside and I starting kicking it off the side of the garage, eventually hitting it too hard and low, shattering a couple of my moms pots."

Dominic Sigala, Ottawa
"Some of my earliest memories were with soccer when I was a little kid. I used to watch Ronaldinho and watched him do the crossbar challenge on TV. So I remember always sitting there at soccer practice just yelling crossbar and chipping a ball to try and hit it. As I grew older I kept doing it and backed up to half field to hit it as I grew."

Owain Hickey, Hastings College
"One of my earliest memories is of my grandfather and I going out to a soccer field and kicking around a soccer ball. I was probably around 3-4 at the time."

Jason Mayden, Missouri Valley College
"My earliest memory would of been the youth soccer league I played in when I was 6 or 7 years old."

Jarrod Combs, Georgetown

"Kicking a soccer ball at age 3 in my backyard."

Christian Daog, Menlo College
"My earliest memory of kicking a ball is when I was first placed into team sports, in this case soccer, at the age of 8."

Gavin Voss, Presentation College

"My earliest memory of kicking a ball was in the backyard with my brother in 8th grade. He kicked for Indiana University. He got me into kicking with his very good accuracy and fame from his long field goals in High School."

Blake Nolan, Cumberlands
"My earliest memory of kicking a a football was at a Cincinnati Bengals game when I was 8 years old. There was a field goal kicking area. I remember kicking the football and it feeling completely natural. I drilled the kick and some guy watching said 'The Bengals need to pick this kid up in a few years.' It was a lot of fun."
