Guyana Men's National Soccer Team News

June 14, 2015 - Emery Welshman & Neil Danns each score brace in draw with St. Vincent
"2018 World Cup Qualifiers… Golden Jaguars hold St. Vincent to 4-4 draw …but visitors still advance: As the match progressed, Guyana got their act together and began making progressive approaches and were rewarded for their efforts when Emery Welshman finished in front of the goal off a terrific cross from Samuel Cox on the right flank in the 40th minute. The very next minute the Vincentians regained the lead as Tevin Slater who scored the equaliser in the first match, recorded the first of his double. Neil Danns who was having a good game then levelled things again in the 50th minute when he scored from the penalty spot as Welshman drew the foul in the opposition’s 18-yard box. Slater pushed his side ahead eight minute later with a scorcher of a shot and Oalex Anderson scored in the 67th to put a victory beyond double as Guyanese supporters began pouring out of the stadium in anticipation of a loss. What they missed was Guyana making it a one possession game when Welshman scored in the 77th and the equaliser which was 87th by Danns." - Guyana Chronicle

March 22, 2015 - Eon Alleyne & Sheldon Holder score in win over St. Lucia
"Guyana scored once in each half to defeat visiting St. Lucia in an international friendly on Sunday at the Guyana National Stadium. St. Lucia won by the same score in the sides’ last meeting on September 5, 2014, in the Caribbean Cup. Goals from Eon Alleyne and Sheldon Holder on either side of halftime provided the margin of victory for the Guyanese, who have scored two goals in each of their two matches this year.  They drew 2-2 at Barbados last month. The host went ahead 1-0 in 34th minute thanks to solid build-up play on the right between the tandem of Vurlon Mills and Daniel Wilson.  As a result, Alleyne was able to fire past St. Lucia’s custodian Randy Poleon off Wilson’s pinpoint feed. Sheldon Holder sealed the encounter four minutes after the break with his second goal in as many games, breaching the St. Lucian defense and beating Poleon." - CONCACAF

March 18, 2015 - Matthew Briggs & Neil Danns called up
"Guyana raised the stakes for its March 29 friendly against visiting Grenada, announcing that two players with English Premier League (EPL) experience are expected to join the Golden Jaguars. The newcomers are left-back Matthew Briggs, who is currently on loan at Colchester United from Millwall, and Bolton Wanderers midfielder Neil Danns. Briggs became the youngest player to ever appear in an EPL match, when on May 13, 2007, he took the field for Fulham against Middlesbrough at 16-years-old and 65 days, a record that still stands.  The 24-year-old has represented England at the under-16 through under-23 levels.  His grandmother is Guyanese. Danns, whose grandfather is Guyanese, has spent a majority of his career with English Championship sides, but has played in five EPL games – three for Blackburn Rovers and two for Birmingham City." - CONCACAF

February 1, 2015 - Sheldon Holder & Emery Welshman score in draw with Barbados
"The Golden Jaguars and Barbados played to an exciting 2-2 draw on Sunday evening in the international friendly at the Barbados National Stadium. The Jaguars were led by goals from Sheldon Holder and debutant Emery Welshman, while Barbados’ two goals came within three minutes. While both countries were hunting a victory, the result would satisfy both parties as they embark on bigger engagements this year, key among them the 2018 World Cup qualifiers." - Guyana Times
