Draft Preview: Michael Hunnicutt

Among the kickers eligible for this year's NFL draft, or signing as an undrafted free agent thereafter, is Oklahoma's Michael Hunnicutt. He ranks in the top ten in the majority of the various draft rankings.

2014 Senior Season
  • Named Oklahoma's Special Teams Player of the Year
  • made all three field goals (38, 37, 36 yards) and all five extra points against Kansas (11/22)
  • tied season long with 44-yard field goal and converted season-high eight extra points at Iowa State (11/1)
  • behind six extra points and a field goal of 42 yards at West Virginia (9/20), became OU's all-time leading scorer 
2013 Junior Season
  • Semifinalist for the Groza Award
  • honorable mention All-American by CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated ... All-Big 12 Second Team by coaches, AP, Athlon Sports, Phil Steele and San Antonio Express-News 
  • made a season-long 47 yard field goal in the Sugar Bowl vs. Alabama (1/2)
  • caught an eight-yard touchdown pass on a fake field goal and made both field goal tries (21, 39 yards) at Oklahoma State (12/7) to earn Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors
  • was 2-2 on field goals (39, 37 yards) against TCU (10/5) to become OU’s all-time career field goal leader
2012 Sophomore Season
  • finished fourth in Big 12 in successful field goal tries and in field goal conversion rate
  • registered a streak of 11 straight made field goals during the season
  • tallied a season-high three made field goals, including one from a season-long of 45 yards, and made the game-tying extra point with four seconds left to force overtime vs. Oklahoma State (11/24).
2011 Freshman Season
  • Honorable mention All-Big 12 by coaches
  • took over as team's starting kicker in the third game of the season
  • broke the OU and Big 12 freshman records with 21 field goals in his first year of competition
  • became the first kicker in OU history to kick four field goals in two different games with four each vs. Kansas and Iowa State
  • tied the OU kick scoring in a game record with 17 points at Kansas
High School
  • Starting kicker and wide receiver at Pearce High School
  • connected on 12 of 17 field goals his final two seasons with a long of 50 yards
  • had 43 touchbacks on kickoffs his senior season
  • was a perfect 55-55 on PATs

College Stats:
2014: 13 of 18 (72.2%) FGs; 60 of 62 PATs; 99 points
2013: 24 of 27 (88.9%) FGs; 47 of 48 PATs; 119 points
2012: 17 of 21 (81.0%) FGs; 57 of 59 PATs; 108 points
2011: 21 of 24 (87.5%) FGs; 55 of 56 PATs; 118 points

Last September, Hunnicutt discussed becoming the all-time scoring leader for the Sooners:
"It’s a great honor. For me, it just shows I was on a bunch of good teams and a bunch of good offenses. I had good holders. Just to be on a list with some of those guys – DeMarco Murray and Steve Owens – it’s just an unbelievable experience or an honor."
